If you threw classic rock, blues, country, folk and reggae into a pot, seasoned with healthy pinches of laughter,
virtuosity and anarchy, you'd find yourself with the recipe for The MoodSwingers .
Considered one of the finest guitarists and singers in Delmarva, Mike Armstrong has been performing on stages
around Ocean City since the early 80's, when his touring band Whitewater played venues in the area. After falling
in love with the area back then (and meeting his wife Diane, who was working at the old OC Corral), Mike relocated
permanently to OC in 1991. Within a couple years, he helped start The Essentials, Cold Blue Steel, and
Chameleon... all local favorites! Earlier in his musical career, Mike opened for and/or jammed with: Willie Nelson,
Peter Frampton, Jorma Kaukonen, Vassar Clements, Danny Gatton, Johnny Paycheck, and Kinky Friedman.
Bassist and singer (and brother) Tim Armstrong followed a parallel path, playing punk rock during his University of
Maryland days with The Pseudo McCoys, The Mental Giants, and Thee Killbillies. A move to Colorado in the early
‘90s found him playing rootsy rock’n’roll with The Bass Brothers and The Swamp Things. Moving back to
Maryland in 2002, Tim finally hooked up with Mike to form their first band together, The MoodSwingers.
Mark "Bubba" Phippin can play just about any kind of music. As a drummer, he's been a member of country, heavy-
metal, classic rock, and Zydeco groups over the years, in and around Delmarva (many of them with Mike!). He also
plays drums at church on Sundays! Bubba is a great singer as well as a terrific percussionist...he's also the band's
"sex cymbal"...
With a song list that draws on rock’n’roll, blues, reggae, folk and country, The MoodSwingers regularly play at
Delmarva venues such as The Globe in Berlin and BJ's on the Water in Ocean City, and have played to
appreciative audiences every Saturday afternoon during the last five summers at the Caribbean Pool Bar at the
Plim Plaza Hotel in Ocean City.
In 2004, they released their debut CD swingset, featuring 14 original songs, getting regional airplay on Ocean
City's WOCM-FM and WRNR-FM in Annapolis. The MoodSwingers are currently working on a followup to
